That ought to be a very efficient laser, to melt through metal and not become burning hot itself!

Though a look at a lock's diagram would tell that this isn't where you want to cut to release the latch! Personally I'd cut the mounting screws, pull out the knob and move the latch manually; or just cut the wood around the knob, that'd do it too!

Very efficient. I imagine the heat from the laser is being distributed directly into Scott's body to help stop it from overheating; a bionically enhanced circulatory system is probably very good at that!

As to Scott's plan, he felt it was more time efficient to just core out the entire mechanism. It might not be clear by the picture, but the entire process only took a few seconds - it's a POWERFUL laser.

Note however that he may not feel that way about a bigger, stronger, or thicker lock mechanism.
